To prevent the external propagation of flames, explosion-proof motors feature tightly sealed housings, which results in less efficient heat dissipation compared to standard motors. If a standard 6319 bearing is used, electrical arcing from shaft currents can cause the bearing to overheat. This may raise the motor's surface temperature beyond its explosion-proof rating limits (e.g., T3 or T4), potentially triggering an explosion in the facility. Consequently, the SEW EDRN315S series of explosion-proof motors utilizes a 6319 insulated bearing on the B-side (NDE). This interrupts the current path and ensures compliance with explosion-proof safety standards.
