Electrically insulated bearings refer to the general term for bearings that can prevent the passage of electric current and have insulating properties themselves.

Their insulating performance is usually achieved by processing a layer of aluminum oxide coating on the outer ring or inner ring of the bearing using internationally advanced technology to withstand DC voltage. They are generally divided into inner ring coated insulated bearings and outer ring coated insulated bearings. Their basic coating can withstand DC voltage up to 1000 volts. TFL Bearing supplies insulated bearings with coatings that can withstand 1000-3000V DC according to customer requirements.

Modern motors, especially those controlled by Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), generate tiny destructive currents inside the bearings. These currents, like continuous small electric sparks, gradually erode the smooth surfaces of the bearings, causing "electrical erosion" damage, which ultimately results in premature bearing failure and costly equipment shutdowns.
