Why Choose TFL 6320/C3VL2071 Electrically Insulated Bearings?

TFL delivers exceptional value with the 6320/C3VL2071, combining advanced insulation technology for superior electrical protection, high compatibility across brands, and significant cost savings compared to OEM options. Our electrically insulated bearings are strictly tested for breakdown voltage and dimensional accuracy. Compared to other insulation methods (e.g., shaft insulation sleeves or grounding brushes), insulated bearings are maintenance-free, take up little space, and simplify system design.

Features of 6320/C3VL2071

Common Applications of Electrically Insulated Bearings

VL2071 features an aluminium oxide insulating coating on the inner ring. When the outer ring has a loose fit with the bearing housing (to accommodate thermal expansion) while the inner ring has an interference fit with the shaft, inner ring insulation is specifically selected to ensure the insulating coating does not fail due to fretting wear.
electrically insulated bearing with inner ring coating for motors

Industrial Motors

The 6320 model bearing is commonly used in the Drive End (DE) and Non-Drive End (NDE) of electric motors to support the rotating shaft and withstand radial loads, while providing low noise and high-speed performance. The 6320/C3VL2071 is used in the NDE of variable frequency drive (VFD) motors to prevent high-frequency shaft currents generated by the inverter from damaging the bearing. In WEG’s W50 series high-voltage/high-power industrial motors, the 6320 insulated bearing is often specified for the motor’s NDE to interrupt the shaft current circuit.
Inner ring coated bearing preventing electrical erosion for wind turbines

Wind Energy

The 6320 model bearing is commonly used in the generator and main shaft sections of wind turbines, providing high load capacity and low vibration performance. Since wind turbine generators are typically located at high altitudes where maintenance is extremely expensive, and because the generator itself not only produces induced voltage but is also controlled by converters, bearings with either inner or outer ring insulation must be used to ensure a 20-year design life. In the generators of the Vestas V90-2.0MW or similar megawatt-class wind turbines, the 6320/C3VL2071 (or its interchangeable equivalent) is frequently used as the non-locating bearing for the generator rotor.

Electrically insulated bearing featuring inner ring ceramic coating used in industrial screw air compressors

Screw Compressors

Large industrial screw air compressors are heavy users of insulated bearings. In compressor units such as the CSDX 165 or CSDX 215 (power approx. 90kW-132kW), the 6320/C3VL2071 is found at the NDE (tail end) of the core Siemens or WEG customized variable frequency main motor. Kaeser’s Sigma Frequency Control (SFC) technology generates high-frequency common-mode voltage. Located at the rear of the motor, the 6320 VL2071 interrupts the current path flowing toward the compressor airend, thereby protecting the extremely expensive screw airend bearings from erosion caused by electric discharge.

Q&A

Are TFL 6320 insulated bearings fully compatible with standard 6320 bearings?

Yes, they share the same dimensions (100 × 215 × 47 mm), so they can directly replace standard 6320 deep groove ball bearings.

What’s the difference between VL0241 and VL2071 suffixes?

VL0241 indicates outer-ring insulation, while VL2071 means the inner ring is insulated. Inner-ring insulation (VL2071) is preferable for applications with rotating outer ring or high-frequency currents.
