Why Choose TFL 6320/C4VL0241 Electrically Insulated Bearings?

TFL specializes in electrically insulated deep groove ball bearings. The 6320/C4VL0241 features a specialized ceramic aluminum oxide coating on the outer ring. This coating effectively blocks shaft voltage and stray currents generated by inverters (VFDs) from passing through the bearing, preventing electrical corrosion. This significantly extends equipment life and improves reliability. Compared to standard bearings, it is far better suited for modern variable frequency drives, generators, and industrial fans.

Features of 6320/C4VL0241

Common Applications of Electrically Insulated Bearings

Electrically insulated deep groove ball bearings like the 6320/C4VL0241 are essential in systems involving shaft voltage, VFD drives, and generators/motors. Without an insulation coating, stray currents can flow through the metal path of the bearing to the ground, causing electrical erosion (pitting, fluting) and lubrication failure.

Electric Motors

The 6320/C4VL0241 is frequently used in both the Drive End (DE) and Non-Drive End (NDE) of industrial electric motors. In SIMOTICS SD (1LE5 Series) heavy-duty cast iron motors, specifically the 1LE5 355 M/L model (Horizontal mount), the 6320 C4 is often standard for both DE and NDE positions. The insulation coating blocks the current path, avoiding electrical erosion of the raceways and balls, ensuring smooth operation under high loads and speeds.

Centrifugal Pumps

Bearings are typically installed in the motor driving the pump. To precisely control flow, high-end VFDs like the ABB ACS880 are often paired with the system. When an ABB M3BP 355 SMA 4 (315kW) motor is used to drive a Sulzer AHLSTAR series pulp pump, insulated bearings are adopted to prevent the VFD from damaging the motor bearings. The 6320 C4 VL0241 supports the motor rotor, withstands axial loads transmitted by the pump, and blocks induced currents.

Crusher Drives

When driving a Metso HP300/400 cone crusher, the motor often operates near its overload limit with significant temperature rise. C4 clearance is strictly necessary due to the dusty and high-vibration mining environments. If the system uses a VSD, upgrading to the insulated VL0241 is critical. The C4 clearance absorbs the severe vibrations and thermal expansion caused by crushing hard rock, while the insulation protects the bearing from high-frequency harmonics generated by the drive.

Q&A

What is the difference between C3 and C4 clearance in the 6320/C4VL0241 bearing?

C4 clearance is larger than C3. We recommend the 6320/C4VL0241 for applications where the bearing inner ring gets very hot (causing expansion) or for very high-speed motors. If your application runs at standard temperatures, we can also supply the 6320/C3VL0241.

Does the VL0241 coating affect the dimensions of the bearing?

No. The TFL 6320/C4VL0241 is manufactured so that the final dimensions (with the coating) match standard ISO tolerances. You can replace a standard 6320 bearing with our insulated version without machining the shaft or housing.
