Features of 6214/C4VL0241

Common Applications of Electrically Insulated Bearings

TFL insulated bearings are widely used in VFD motors, generators, pumps, fans, and wind turbine systems. The insulation coating blocks shaft current paths to minimize electrical erosion, making them ideal for high-voltage and variable-speed operations. Our bearings ensure stable performance in humid and vibratory conditions, extending overall system life.

Industrial Centrifugal Chillers

TFL 6214/C4VL0241 is an ideal fit for the high-speed drive shafts of large centrifugal chillers. In these applications, the “62” light series design minimizes rolling friction at high RPMs, while the C4 clearance allows for the thermal expansion of the inner ring during the rapid temperature spikes of startup sequences. By capitalizing on the agility of China’s industrial supply chain, TFL can offer these specialized high-speed insulated bearings with significantly shorter lead times than European competitors, ensuring that critical HVAC maintenance projects during peak seasons are not delayed by parts shortages.

Electrically insulated deep groove ball bearings used for pumps

District Heating Circulation Pumps

Designed for electric motors driving hot water circulation pumps in district heating networks, such as Grundfos NK or KSB Etanorm models operating at fluid temperatures exceeding 100°C. The heat from the pumped medium transfers through the shaft to the bearing inner ring, making the C4 clearance mandatory to prevent radial seizing caused by thermal expansion. Furthermore, as global energy efficiency regulations (such as the EU Ecodesign Directive) increasingly mandate the use of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for these pumps, TFL’s insulated outer ring becomes a crucial compliance enabler, protecting the motor from VFD-induced stray currents and ensuring sustainable, uninterrupted service.

High-Speed Screw Compressors

This model is frequently applied in the main drive motors of oil-injected rotary screw compressors, commonly used in Atlas Copco GA Series equipment. These compressors operate continuously at high speeds to maintain factory air pressure, generating substantial heat that requires the C4 internal clearance to maintain proper lubrication film thickness. TFL’s VL0241 coating effectively isolates the bearing from the high-frequency shaft voltages generated by the compressor’s energy-saving VSD (Variable Speed Drive) inverters, preventing the fluting damage that typically leads to expensive air-end failures.

Q&A

How to quickly tell if a bearing has electrical erosion?

You can confirm electrical erosion if you see any of these signs: 1. Regular “fluting” marks on the raceway 2. Grease turns black or dries out quickly 3. Sudden increase in noise with a “buzzing” electrical sound 4. Shaft-to-ground resistance < 10 MΩ when tested with a megohmmeter

Should 6313M/C4VL0241 be installed on the drive end or non-drive end?

It is recommended to install it on the non-drive end (NDE). Shaft voltage on the NDE is usually 2–3 times higher than on the drive end. An insulated bearing can block the current path. If the budget allows, using insulated bearings on both DE + NDE gives the best protection.
