The TFL 6219/C4VL0241 is specifically manufactured for demanding environments where heat is the enemy. We use a high-purity steel composition combined with a plasma-sprayed oxide coating that is tested to adhere perfectly even under the thermal expansion stress that demands a C4 clearance. This ensures the insulation layer doesn’t crack as the bearing ring expands.

Features of 6219/C4VL0241

Common Applications of Electrically Insulated Bearings

Electrically insulated bearings are widely used in equipment that is susceptible to electrical current damage. By preventing surface pitting, raceway fluting, and premature failure, they significantly improve reliability. The insulation layer protects against voltage-induced corrosion while maintaining efficient rotation and full load-carrying capability, making them especially beneficial in applications that require larger internal clearances to accommodate thermal expansion.

Drive Motors

In the steel industry, motors driving roller tables often operate under extremely high ambient temperatures. Siemens SIMOTICS 1LA8 series (high-voltage) motors, as well as older 1PQ8 force-ventilated motors, commonly use C4 clearance bearings to prevent shaft seizure caused by thermal expansion from hot steel billets. The 6219/C4VL0241 is applied at the non-drive end (NDE) of these VFD-powered motors. The VL0241 insulation prevents shaft voltage from arcing through the bearing.

Industrial Fans

Large axial fans used to exhaust hot gases in cement plants or power stations—such as those manufactured by Howden—impose severe thermal stress on motor bearings. Heat is conducted directly from the fan impeller through the motor shaft to the bearings. Because these fans are almost always VFD-controlled to improve efficiency, an insulated outer ring is essential to prevent electrical discharge machining (EDM) effects that would otherwise lead to premature bearing failure.

Traction Motors

In underground mining operations, electric locomotives operate under harsh conditions with frequent starts, stops, and heavy loads. Traction motors often experience significant heat buildup. The 6219/C4VL0241 is used for rotor support in these DC or AC traction motors. The C4 internal clearance prevents bearing seizure during peak load heating, while the insulation protects the bearing from rail return currents and inverter switching frequencies, which would otherwise degrade the lubricant and raceways.

Q&A

Is the insulation on the 6219/C4VL0241 affected by the larger C4 clearance?

No, the insulation performance is independent of the mechanical clearance. The VL0241 aluminum oxide coating on the outer ring provides the same 1000V-3000V protection regardless of whether the internal clearance is C3 or C4. The coating is flexible enough to withstand the thermal expansion of the ring.

Are there other variants available in the 6219 insulated bearing series?

Yes, TFL offers options like 6219M/C3VL0241 for brass cage durability, 6219/C3VL0241 for standard clearance, and 6219/C3VL2071 for different insulation needs to fit various setups.
