Features of 6030/C3VL2071

Common Applications of Electrically Insulated Bearings

TFL 6030/C3VL2071 is exclusively developed for systems requiring a large 150mm shaft diameter, low system inertia, and strict weight control, but having extremely limited radial installation space and facing VFD high-frequency shaft currents. Typical applications cover traction motors in rail transit, compact high-pressure industrial centrifugal compressors, large commercial HVAC VFD fans, and high-speed guide roll drives in textile and paper machinery. Due to its unique VL2071 inner-ring ceramic insulation, it constructs the premier, robust barrier blocking high-voltage leakage when outer-ring assembly is restricted by housing grounding, water-cooling, or split designs.

The picture shows two inner ring coating bearings for motor, and the traction motor on the train.

Railway Traction Motors

In AC traction motors for urban transit and high-speed trains, to ensure strict electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) shielding and grounding between the stator and end-shields, the bearing’s outer ring must maintain direct bare-metal contact with the housing bore, making outer-ring coatings prohibited. Concurrently, the compact bogie space demands an extremely thin bearing cross-section to reduce unsprung weight. The compact 60 series structure of TFL 6030/C3VL2071 perfectly reduces rotor inertia. Its VL2071 bore ceramic coating directly intercepts high-frequency common-mode leakage currents at the 150mm rotor shaft, acting as a highly recommended anti-erosion solution for traction motor overhauls.

Compact HVAC Fans & Compressors

In large VFD-driven centrifugal fans and compressors used in commercial buildings or chemical plants, to maintain an extremely compact housing design, the housing bore tolerances and heat-dissipation fits are incredibly tight, prohibiting any outer cylindrical coatings. Here, TFL 6030/C3VL2071’s inner-ring insulation design thoroughly blocks parasitic shaft currents introduced by high-frequency PWM harmonics without altering housing heat transfer or precision tolerances. Its standard pressed steel cage ensures minimal running resistance, guaranteeing long-term steady-state energy efficiency under high-speed operations.

Large Paper Machine High-Speed Guide Rolls

High-speed drive rolls in modern large paper machines (e.g., Valmet systems) are highly sensitive to roller rotational inertia and temperature rises, mostly utilizing lightweight, thin-walled 60 series bearings. Because electrostatic charges and common-mode leakage currents easily cause electrochemical spalling on raceways, electrical isolation is mandatory. TFL 6030/C3VL2071 provides high-strength support for a large 150mm shaft, while its inner-bore ceramic anti-corrosion layer protects raceways from high-frequency discharges. The standard low-friction steel cage avoids frictional self-heating, ensuring safety and stability for high-speed continuous assembly line operations.

Q&A

Does the ceramic coating on the inner ring (VL2071) affect the precision fit tolerances of this thin-walled 150mm large-bore bearing onto the spindle shaft (e.g., m5 or n6 fit)?

Absolutely not. To ensure that the thin-walled inner ring does not suffer from geometric distortion or stress concentrations under heavy interference conditions, TFL pre-grinds the inner-ring steel substrate to a high-precision reduced diameter before plasma spraying the 6030. After applying the high-purity ceramic layer and finishing with ultra-precision grinding, the finished inner diameter dimensions and tolerances (including roundness and taper) strictly comply with ISO standard bearing specifications. The motor's rotor spindle can still be machined to standard interference fit tolerances (such as m5, k5, or n6) without any dimensional adjustments.

n our high-power VFD motor overhauls, why is the TFL 6030/C3VL2071 insulated bearing usually only installed at the Non-Drive End (NDE)? Is it necessary to also replace the Drive End (DE) bearing with an insulated one?

In most motors, high-frequency shaft currents primarily form a closed "circulating loop" inside the motor. Since the Non-Drive End (NDE) is typically designed as the insulation interception point, installing one TFL inner-ring insulated bearing there is sufficient to break the entire circulating loop and protect both bearings. However, if your VFD motor is extremely powerful or the shaft voltage is exceptionally high (exceeding 30V), leakage currents may instead flow through the coupling to the driven mechanical load. Under such high-risk conditions, installing insulated bearings at both ends (DE and NDE) is a necessary step to achieve complete system-level electrical isolation and fully protect downstream high-value gearboxes or encoders.

Is the ceramic insulation material used in the TFL 6030/C3VL2071 bearing safe, environmentally friendly, and compliant with REACH/RoHS? How is it recycled after scrap?

The insulation coating is fully compliant with REACH and RoHS environmental standards. Alumina (Al2O3) is a non-toxic and harmless natural oxide, and the sealing resin contains no prohibited hazardous substances. When the bearing is scrapped, it can be recycled together with standard steel bearings in standard steel furnaces without any prior outer peeling. During the extremely high-temperature remelting process, the minor ceramic coating directly converts into slag, posing no negative impact on the steel quality or the furnace environment.
